Unfortunately when I started the installation, my iMac would hang while the system was trying to boot from the original Snow Leopard DVD.Īs this was all happening, the death knell was ringing for MobileMe. My first response to the problem was to try to reinstall Snow Leopard. The closest Apple Store to our home on the Crystal Coast is over three hours away so a visit with a genius was not a real option. There was always a brilliant system engineer hiding somewhere.

When I worked for Apple from 1984 until July 2004, hardware and software problems never were much of a challenge. Over the years, I have seen my share of strange Apple problems, but this one was one of the more challenging ones. After a recent trip back to the coast, I was appalled that it took my 2010 I5 iMac over twelve minutes to boot and open Mail, Firefox, Chrome, iPhoto, and Snagit. I restart my iMac only after we have been away traveling so this problem crept up on me. That worked well until recently when I figured out that I was suffering from "slow Snow Leopard." I wanted to stay with an older (faster) version of iPhoto that appeared to be tied to Snow Leopard.

I have been resisting moving to Mac OSX Lion. How this story twists back around to MobileMe & iCloud won't be apparent at first, but sometimes living in the world of Apple isn't very simple if you are trying to live with systems that aren't brand new. I can say that both as a former Apple employee and as an Apple user who purchased his first system in August of 1982.

Step 8: Once the VM starts booting, hit F8 and type -v at the boot prompt so that you can see what exactly went wrong if something does go wrong. Then click OK and hit the main Start button to start your VM. Now highlight it and click Select button at the bottom. Then find and add the OSX86 iso you downloaded earlier. On this window, click Add (Plus sign on 3 CD’s) at the top. Now click on the folder with the green arrow on the right. Step 6: Now click on “Settings” and select “System” from the left pane and then uncheck the option for “Enable EFI (special OSes only)” in the right as shown in the screenshot below. Select the option which best fits your needs and click on Next to finish the wizard. If you use Dynamic option, it will expand on use while Static option will be fixed to the size you allotted. Step 5: Now create a new hard disk for your VM, which depending on your needs should be around 20GB in size. For this tutorial, I have allotted the max 1500MB of Ram. Step 4: Assign your VM some Ram in megabytes. Step 3: Name your VM “OSX” and select “Mac OS X” from Operating System dropdown menu, and “Mac OS X Server” from Version dropdown menu.
